Class Description
Build a rock-solid algebra foundation while developing problem-solving confidence. This course blends clear instruction, guided practice, and contest-style challenges to support success in school math and prepare motivated students for competitions like AMC 8/10.
Who it’s for: Grades 6–9 (placement by short diagnostic).
Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra skills (integers, fractions, ratios) or instructor approval.

Sunday @ 6:20 pm – 7:20 pm (From 9/7/2025 To 12/14/2025)
What students learn

- Variables, expressions, and order of operations
- Linear equations & inequalities; word-problem modeling
- Graphing lines, slope & intercepts; functions
- Systems of equations (substitution & elimination)
- Exponents & radicals; scientific notation
- Polynomials, factoring, and quadratic equations
- Rational expressions & equations; proportional reasoning
- Problem-solving strategies for multi-step and contest problems
How the course works
- Weekly small-group lesson with targeted practice
- Optional “Practice Lab” and office hours for individual help
- Mastery tracking with ICEA Leveling; periodic check-ins to adjust pace
- Light, purposeful homework with feedback; parent progress updates
- Competition track (optional): curated AMC-style problem sets & mock quizzes
Outcomes
Students leave with fluency in core Algebra topics, stronger mathematical communication, and the confidence to tackle non-routine problems. Graduates are ready for Geometry or Algebra II and better prepared for AMC 8/10 and school assessments.
